Sony revives WH-1000XM4C, updates models

Published 7 September 2026

Sony has revived its popular WH-1000XM4 noise-canceling headphones, reintroducing them as the WH-1000XM4C with updated features and new color options. The original WH-1000XM4, first released in August 2020, were lauded for their sound quality, active noise cancellation, and compact design, remaining a top seller for years. The refreshed model retains the iconic look and folding mechanism of its predecessor but introduces a new lavender color alongside black and silver. The WH-1000XM4C incorporate several upgrades, including Bluetooth 6.0, an enhanced 10-band equalizer with a gaming preset, and updated sound tuning aimed at delivering clearer vocals and punchier bass, aligning them with Sony's current audio profiles. While the core active noise cancellation technology, utilizing four microphones and the QN1 processing chip, remains the same as the original, the headphones now feature Quick Access for launching music streaming services via headband gestures. In line with new European battery regulations, the WH-1000XM4C are equipped with user-replaceable batteries.
