Smith unsure of 2027 Ashes place, eyes LA Olympics

Australian cricket star Steve Smith has expressed uncertainty about his participation in the 2027 Ashes series in England, stating he is now taking his Test career on a series-by-series basis. The 37-year-old batter, who has played 125 Tests and averages 54, told The Telegraph he does not know if he will still be playing the longest format by the time the next Ashes arrives. "I don't even know if I'll be there yet," Smith said. "I'm kind of a series-by-series proposition, as I've been for a while, and that's still a fair way away for me right now." While his Test future remains open, Smith has identified a clear new goal: representing Australia at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Cricket will return to the Games after a 128-year absence, with T20 competitions scheduled for both men and women. Smith, who will be 39 by then, said the Olympics are a primary remaining target. "Right now probably it's just the Olympics to try to be a part of that," he explained. To build his T20 credentials, Smith is currently playing for the Amsterdam Flames in the European T20 Premier League.
