Smeg launches first standalone air fryer with steam-assisted cooking

Smeg has launched its first standalone air fryer, the AFC01, marking the Italian appliance brand's entry into the dedicated air fryer market. The product, available in the United Kingdom for £199.95, features a distinctive top-opening design and a steam-assisted cooking mode. The AFC01 departs from conventional air fryer aesthetics with a boxy, minimalist form and a matte finish. Its lid opens upwards via a soft-close mechanism, revealing a deep, dishwasher-safe basket with two silicone handles. A viewing window integrated into the lid allows users to monitor food without releasing heat. The appliance is controlled by a touch-sensitive panel that remains hidden when not in use. A key feature is the JuicyCrispy cooking mode. This function uses a steam element housed in the lid to inject moisture during cooking, aiming to produce food that is crispy on the outside while remaining tender inside. The air fryer also offers a standard Crispy mode and seven preset programs for items like chicken, fish, chips, and vegetables. The unit has a 7-litre capacity and measures approximately 32 by 31 by 31 centimetres.
