Shettima clarifies remark on northern governors' support for Tinubu

Vice President Kashim Shettima clarified on Thursday that his recent remark about only six northern governors supporting President Bola Tinubu referred to pre-primary political consultations in 2022, not the 2023 general election. The clarification, issued by his office, aims to correct widespread interpretations that his comment questioned the loyalty of northern governors during the presidential campaign. The statement from Shettima's Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communications, Stanley Nkwocha, explained that the Vice President's reference to six governors was strictly about the period before the All Progressives Congress presidential primary in June 2022. "It was not a comment on the position of northern APC governors following President Tinubu's emergence as the party's candidate, nor was it intended to question their support during the 2023 presidential election," the statement read. The clarification came one day after Shettima made the original comment at a public event in Ilorin, Kwara State.
