Shami marks 100th first-class match

Veteran Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami is set to reach a significant career milestone on September 6, 2026, when he plays his 100th first-class match in the Duleep Trophy final. The match will see East Zone, led by captain Ishan Kishan, take on South Zone at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Shami, a key figure in East Zone's journey to the final, will become only the sixth Indian bowler to achieve this landmark. The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) held a felicitation ceremony for Shami on September 5, 2026, the day before the final. CAB Treasurer Sanjoy Das presented the pacer with a silver salver, a customized jersey bearing the number 100, and a cricket ball signed by CAB president Sourav Ganguly. "Shami is the pride of Bengal cricket and an absolute legend. This is a small gesture on behalf of the state association on completion of an important milestone," Das said. East Zone captain Ishan Kishan and several teammates were present at the ceremony. Heading into the final, Shami's first-class record is formidable. He has taken 382 wickets in 99 matches at an average of 26.30, including 15 five-wicket hauls and 19 four-wicket hauls.
