Sesko declares full fitness ahead of Manchester derby

Published 13 September 2026

Manchester United striker Benjamin Sesko says he has fully recovered from a shin injury that disrupted his first season at the club and is now focused on scoring goals ahead of Sunday's Premier League derby against Manchester City. The 23-year-old Slovenia international joined United from RB Leipzig in a deal worth up to 76.5 million euros last August and scored 12 goals in 32 games during his debut campaign. Sesko's season was hampered by the shin problem, which he said was caused by a kick during a match and an "overload" that required a careful recovery to prevent recurrence. He missed nearly three months after the injury was exacerbated during a victory over Liverpool in May. The extended absence meant he missed preseason friendlies but used the time to adjust his physique. "I had quite some time from the injury that I could gain some muscle. I lost already so much size because I was overweight with muscles and I couldnt really move so much," Sesko said. "But now I feel very good and I think Im in the right place at the moment." Sesko made his first start of the current season in Thursday's 4-0 Champions League victory over Sabah, scoring a goal.
