Senate to Vote on CLARITY Act Crypto Regulation Sept. 15

Published 2 September 2026

The U.S. Senate is poised for a critical procedural vote on the CLARITY Act on September 15, 2026, a vote that will determine the immediate future of comprehensive cryptocurrency regulation in the country. The legislation, which aims to establish a clear regulatory framework for digital assets, faces significant political hurdles and growing industry skepticism about its passage this year. The CLARITY Act, formally known as the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act of 2025, passed the House of Representatives on July 17, 2025, with bipartisan support. The Senate Banking Committee advanced the bill on May 14, 2026. The upcoming vote is a procedural step known as a cloture vote, which requires 60 affirmative votes to overcome a filibuster and allow the bill to proceed to a full Senate debate. Key senators, including Angela Alsobrooks, Ruben Gallego, Mark Warner, and John Kennedy, have expressed support for the legislation. The bill proposes to divide regulatory oversight between the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).
