Scotland's 'ghost golf course' next to Gleneagles put up for sale

A 639-acre golf estate in Scotland, long dubbed the country's "ghost course" because it was completed but never opened to the public, has been put up for sale by the billionaire Al Tajir family. The property, known as gWest, is located next to the renowned Gleneagles resort in Perthshire and includes an 18-hole championship golf course designed by architect David McLay Kidd. Knight Frank, the property consultancy handling the sale, confirmed the listing. The estate was developed between 2007 and 2009 by the family of Mahdi Al Tajir, a Bahrain-born billionaire and former UAE ambassador to the UK who founded the Highland Spring water company. The golf course was finished in 2009 but has remained largely inaccessible, with reports indicating it has been played only by members of the Tajir family and their guests. The sale includes the course, a clubhouse shell, and planning consent for up to 170 residential plots, a hotel and spa, leisure facilities, and staff accommodation. No guide price has been disclosed.
