Scotland lose 2-1 to Slovenia and sit third in Group B1
Scotland lost 2-1 to Slovenia at Hampden Park on October 6, leaving Sébastien Pocognoli’s side third in Nations League Group B1 with four points from four matches. Ryan Christie gave Scotland a first-half lead, but Aljosa Matko equalised and Danijel Sturm scored Slovenia’s winner in the second half. The defeat ended Pocognoli’s first international camp as Scotland head coach on a difficult note. Scotland had beaten North Macedonia in their previous match, but the loss to Slovenia left them with two Group B1 games remaining, both scheduled for November, against North Macedonia and Switzerland. Scotland took the lead in the 31st minute. Ben Gannon-Doak’s cross struck the post after Jack Hendry’s header, and Christie turned the rebound over the line from close range. Slovenia had threatened before the goal, and Andy Robertson prevented an equaliser shortly before halftime with a sliding challenge on Zan Vipotnik. Scotland had a chance to extend their lead early in the second half when Gannon-Doak sent Christie through, but Slovenia goalkeeper Jan Oblak made the save. Four minutes later, Matko levelled after Scotland lost possession following a throw-in.
