Scholes questions if Man Utd keeper Lammens is good enough

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has questioned whether goalkeeper Senne Lammens is good enough to help the club win the Premier League, stating the "jury is still out" on the Belgian. Scholes made the comments on a podcast following United's 1-0 defeat to Manchester City, a result that left the team with four points from their opening four league matches under manager Michael Carrick. Lammens joined United from Royal Antwerp in September 2025 for a reported fee of £18.1 million. He kept nine clean sheets in 32 top-flight matches last season and was voted the Premier League Transfer of the Season. However, he has not kept a clean sheet in the current campaign and has conceded seven goals in four games. "What team have you seen win the Premier League without a top-class goalkeeper?" Scholes asked. "Lammens might be that, I don't know, I think the jury's probably still out on that." Scholes has previously expressed similar doubts about former United goalkeeper Andre Onana, who is now on loan at Trabzonspor. Former United coach Rene Meulensteen also recently suggested the club should have signed Athletic Bilbao's Unai Simon instead of Lammens.
