SC grants Yadav interim relief, Rs 5 crore deposit

Actor Rajpal Yadav has received interim relief from the Supreme Court concerning multiple cheque dishonour cases, securing a temporary exemption from surrendering to serve his sentence. The relief is contingent upon his depositing Rs 5 crore with the court's Registry by Wednesday, September 9, 2026. A bench comprising Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi, and Justice V. Mohana issued the order. The Supreme Court also issued a notice on petitions filed by Yadav and his wife, Radha Rajpal Yadav, challenging a Delhi High Court judgment. The matter is scheduled for further hearing on September 15, 2026. The case stems from seven complaints filed by Murli Projects Pvt. Ltd. over the dishonour of cheques issued in connection with financing for the film "Ata Pata Laapata." According to court records, Murli Projects advanced approximately Rs 5 crore in 2010 for the film's production. As the film's release was delayed, various agreements were made regarding repayment. The Delhi High Court, in a July 10, 2026, judgment, had upheld Yadav's conviction in the seven cases.
