Santander reports disruption to digital banking services

Published 25 September 2026

Santander UK said on September 25 that customers were experiencing problems accessing online and mobile banking, as well as its call centres and online chat. The bank apologized and said it was working to resolve the disruption. Its website later returned online, but some customers continued to report being unable to use the mobile app. The disruption affected both personal and business customers, according to Santander’s service updates and user reports. Customers described being unable to log in through the app or website, while some also reported difficulties using online chat. Posts from customers included claims that they could not transfer or spend money through the affected services; the extent of any resulting financial impact was not established. Reports submitted to Downdetector, a user-reporting service, rose above 3,000 around midday. Published snapshots gave different peak readings: one update cited 3,449 reports, while another said the total exceeded 3,600. The figures represent reports to the platform, not a verified count of affected Santander customers. Later snapshots showed fewer reports, including 854 at 12:06 p.m.
