San Francisco Sues Trump Media Over Truth API

San Francisco has sued Trump Media and Technology Group, alleging its Truth API service sells subscribers early access to posts by President Donald Trump and other Truth Social accounts in a way that could give them an unfair trading advantage. The city is asking a state court to stop the company from offering the service or similar products, arguing that it violates California’s Unfair Competition Law and federal laws concerning nonpublic information. The lawsuit was filed in San Francisco Superior Court on September 22. It alleges that Truth API charges selected customers $100,000 a month for a feed of posts from 10 Truth Social accounts, including Trump’s, before those posts are made available to other users. The client list has not been disclosed, and the available reports do not establish how many customers subscribed or whether subscribers traded on information received through the service. City Attorney David Chiu alleges that selling early access to presidential posts lets Trump Media profit from information connected to Trump’s government role and disadvantages other market participants.
