Samsung Users Report RCS Errors After Phone Switch
Google is investigating a problem preventing some users from sending or receiving messages through its Rich Communication Services platform, a service designed to upgrade standard SMS texting. The issue, which manifests as error code 3100 and a failure to connect, is primarily affecting users of Samsung Galaxy devices after they switch to a new phone or carrier. Multiple user reports on online forums indicate the connection error has emerged in recent days. The problem is most commonly reported by individuals who have purchased new Samsung smartphones, such as the Galaxy Z Fold 8 or Galaxy S26 series, and used the manufacturer's Smart Switch data transfer tool during setup. Others have encountered the same error when changing their mobile service provider. A Google spokesperson confirmed the company is aware of the issue. "We're aware of this issue and are working with our carrier partners to get it fixed as soon as possible," the spokesperson said in an email. A Samsung representative did not immediately provide comment. Google's support team has offered a potential explanation and a series of troubleshooting steps.
