Samsung Gallery Replaces OneDrive With Google Photos Sync

Samsung is preparing to replace its long-standing OneDrive integration in the Samsung Gallery app with Google Photos sync, marking a significant shift in cloud backup for Galaxy users. The transition is set to take effect on September 30, 2026, when support for Microsoft OneDrive will officially end. The new Google Photos integration has begun rolling out with the latest Gallery app update, version 15.9.01.7, allowing users to back up photos and videos directly to their Google accounts. To use the feature, devices must run Android 13 or later, be compatible Samsung models, and users need a personal Google account. The integration does not support Google Workspace accounts or child accounts supervised by parents. Once enabled, users can select specific device folders such as Camera, Screenshots, or Downloads for syncing, providing control over what gets backed up. If syncing is disabled, Samsung Gallery will function as a read-only cloud gallery, displaying synced media but not uploading new photos from the device. However, the integration is designed for backup purposes only and does not allow browsing the entire Google Photos library within the Gallery app.
