SAG-AFTRA Names Al Pacino for Life Achievement Award
SAG-AFTRA has named Al Pacino the 62nd recipient of its Life Achievement Award, the union’s highest honor. Pacino is scheduled to receive the award at the 33rd Actor Awards on February 28, 2027, in Los Angeles. The ceremony is set to stream live on Netflix. The union announced the selection on October 15. The award recognizes career achievement in acting, and SAG-AFTRA has also cited Pacino’s charitable support for disaster relief, efforts addressing hunger and poverty, and local theater companies, including the Shakespeare Center of Los Angeles. Pacino said in a statement that working with scripts and fellow actors had been among the greatest joys of his life, and called the recognition an honor. SAG-AFTRA President Sean Astin praised Pacino’s work and said the union was proud to honor him. The 86-year-old actor has worked across stage, film and television for more than six decades. He began his career onstage in the 1960s and made his Broadway debut in 1969 in Does a Tiger Wear a Necktie?, earning a Tony Award for best featured actor in a play. His screen career took off after director Francis Ford Coppola cast him as Michael Corleone in The Godfather (1972).
