Ryder Cup Qualification System Overhauled for 2027

The PGA of America has announced a significant overhaul of the U.S. Ryder Cup qualification system, introducing a points-based structure that will run exclusively through the 2027 season. The new criteria, designed to identify the strongest American players for the matches in Ireland, will commence with The American Express in January 2027 and conclude with the BMW Championship in August 2027. This marks the third consecutive change to the U.S. qualification process. Under the revised system, the top six eligible players on the points list after the BMW Championship will earn automatic berths onto the team. Captain Jim Furyk will then select the remaining six players as captain's picks following the Tour Championship. This structure aims to provide a more focused and efficient method for player selection, with Furyk stating his satisfaction with the new process and its potential to identify top talent. The most notable change is the complete removal of money earned as a basis for points. Instead, the system assigns fixed point values to different tiers of events.
