Ryan Reynolds Open to Lanterns Cameo

Published 4 September 2026

Actor Ryan Reynolds has expressed openness to appearing in the new HBO series "Lanterns," stating he "would totally do a cameo" and "loves" the show. The comments, made on the red carpet for his movie "Mayday," mark a notable shift from his long-standing public commentary on the 2011 DC Comics film "Green Lantern," in which he starred as Hal Jordan. Reynolds, known for his self-deprecating humor and frequent jokes about the film in his "Deadpool" movies, offered a surprisingly positive reflection on his experience making "Green Lantern." He told Entertainment Tonight that he learned a great deal from the production, including "what not to do" and "core lessons" applicable to large-scale filmmaking. "I owe my entire career to that movie," Reynolds stated. "I owe everything to that. Everything about it was a gift that keeps on giving, and I really enjoyed the experience of making it." He also acknowledged that the film, despite its critical and commercial struggles, introduced him to his wife, Blake Lively. The 2011 film, directed by Martin Campbell, was a significant box office disappointment for Warner Bros.
