Rutgers beats Howard 58-7 for first win of 2026

Rutgers defeated Howard 58-7 on Friday in Piscataway, New Jersey, ending its 0-3 start to the 2026 season and giving coach Greg Schiano his 100th victory at the school. The Scarlet Knights scored on 10 of 12 possessions and outgained Howard 534 yards to 184. Running back Antwan Raymond led Rutgers with 140 rushing yards and three touchdowns. Quarterback Dylan Lonergan completed 12 of 17 passes for 214 yards and two touchdowns, while receiver KJ Duff caught five passes for 131 yards and a score. Duff’s touchdown extended his streak of games with a receiving score to five, a Rutgers record. Rutgers scored on its first eight possessions before a third-quarter three-and-out. Lonergan connected with Ben Black III for a 16-yard touchdown on the opening drive. After an interception by Howard, Lonergan found Duff for a 77-yard score. Raymond added an 18-yard touchdown in the first quarter, then scored twice more in the second, from one and 13 yards, as Rutgers took a 41-7 halftime lead. Howard’s points came on a 75-yard first-quarter touchdown run by Eden James, who finished with 116 yards on seven carries.
