Russia launches massive drone barrage hitting sites near Polish border

Russia launched a massive overnight drone barrage across Ukraine, with strikes near the Polish border hitting a petrol station and a Kyiv-Warsaw passenger train, Ukrainian and Polish officials reported on September 13. The attacks, part of a nationwide assault, killed at least six civilians and injured 43 others, according to regional authorities. Ukraine's Air Force reported that Russia launched 453 Shahed and Gerbera drones, along with decoy drones and missiles, while the Ukrainian General Staff separately stated that 863 drones were launched overnight. Ukrainian forces intercepted 405 drones and six missiles, with hits recorded at 13 locations. The strikes near the Polish border drew particular concern. A Russian drone struck the locomotive of a passenger train traveling from Kyiv to Warsaw approximately two kilometers from the border near the Yahodyn crossing. Ukrainian Railways said the train had been evacuated after advance warning, and no passengers were injured. The train was carrying 206 passengers at the time.
