Russia Aided Iran in Developing Supersonic Cruise Missiles

Russia has been covertly assisting Iran in developing advanced supersonic cruise missiles under a classified program codenamed C430L, a collaboration that began in 2023 and has continued even as open conflict erupted between Iran, the United States, and Israel, according to an investigation by the Financial Times. The program represents a significant deepening of the military partnership between Moscow and Tehran, focusing on transferring sensitive ramjet propulsion technology that could give Iran a new class of weapons capable of threatening U.S. naval vessels in the Middle East. Leaked Russian correspondence, travel records, and military patents reviewed by the Financial Times detail a sustained effort to help Iran overcome technical challenges in developing a reliable ramjet engine, which allows a cruise missile to sustain flight at several times the speed of sound.
