Rockstar details GTA 6’s larger, denser Leonida world
Rockstar Games is developing Grand Theft Auto 6 around a larger, more densely detailed open world in the fictional state of Leonida, according to comments from senior developers. The planned setting includes Vice City and five other regions, while the studio says it has expanded the world’s scope, interaction and environmental detail alongside its size. Aaron Garbut, Rockstar North co-studio head, described Leonida as the largest map the company has made. Game Informer’s reporting put the map at roughly twice the size of Grand Theft Auto V’s, but Rockstar has not released an official area measurement. The comparison is therefore an estimate, not a published figure calculated by the company. The game’s regions are identified as Vice City, the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga National Park. They span urban, coastal, wetland and rural environments. Garbut said developers focused on rooftops, alleys, interiors and the spaces between them, describing a design intended to make locations feel connected and more populated. His comments do not confirm that every building will be enterable. Other developers outlined planned environmental systems.
