Rivers Governor Signs N1.85 Trillion 2026 Budget Into Law

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara signed the state's 2026 budget into law on Thursday, September 3, 2026, describing the N1.85 trillion appropriation as a "breath of fresh air" and the beginning of a new chapter of unity and progress. The signing ceremony at the Government House in Port Harcourt followed the passage of the budget by the State House of Assembly earlier the same day. The budget, titled the "Budget of Resilience for Growth and Development," represents a 24.5 percent increase over the revised 2025 financial figures. Governor Fubara had originally presented the fiscal estimate of N1,854,248,734,475.76 to the Assembly on July 10, 2026. The House passed the bill after extensive committee reviews and deliberations, incorporating several key adjustments. During the signing ceremony, Governor Fubara thanked the Almighty God, the State House of Assembly, and stakeholders for the successful passage. He specifically acknowledged the role of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, in facilitating the process.
