Ripple adds Stripe's AI payment standard to XRP Ledger toolkit

Ripple has updated its XRP Ledger developer toolkit to support a new payment standard for artificial intelligence agents, integrating with a protocol co-authored by payments giant Stripe. The move aims to position the XRP Ledger as a settlement layer for automated, machine-to-machine commerce. On September 17, Ripple's developer arm, RippleX, released version 1.1 of the XRPL AI Starter Kit. The update adds support for the Machine Payments Protocol (MPP), an open standard co-authored by Stripe and the blockchain company Tempo. The integration allows software agents to pay for services like data and computing power without a traditional human checkout process. Under the MPP framework, a service responds to an agent's request with a price. The agent authorizes the payment, and the service delivers the resource. The transaction settles on the XRP Ledger using either XRP or Ripple's dollar-pegged stablecoin, RLUSD. The update also incorporates the Open Wallet Standard, which enables agents to manage wallets across multiple blockchains through a common interface.
