Report: Guilfoyle Asked Donor for $100,000 Bill Payment

Published 8 October 2026

Messages reviewed by The Wall Street Journal reportedly show Kimberly Guilfoyle asking donor Eric Deters for $100,000 to pay her American Express bill six days before her 2025 confirmation hearing to become U.S. ambassador to Greece. Deters did not make the payment, according to the report. Guilfoyle’s lawyer questioned the messages’ authenticity. The reported exchange took place on July 3, 2025, ahead of the hearing scheduled for July 9. The Journal said Guilfoyle sent Deters instructions for wiring money directly to American Express and wrote that the transfer would not appear anywhere. She also urged him to complete the payment that day, according to the messages described in the report. Deters told the Journal he declined because the payment would cost him his marriage. The reported request came amid months of communications in which Deters sought Guilfoyle’s help with personal and legal matters involving the federal government. According to the Journal, he had offered as much as $1 million if she could help secure the administration’s attention. The materials provided do not establish that any exchange of money for official action occurred.
