Report Estimates 742 Million Crypto Owners, 290 Hold Over $100M
A new report from Henley Partners estimates that 742 million people worldwide now own cryptocurrency, including a small elite of 290 individuals holding assets worth at least $100 million each. The findings, published in the firm's Crypto Wealth Report 2026, are based on a market snapshot taken on August 31, 2026. The report identifies 135,694 crypto millionaires globally, with 92,272 of them holding at least $1 million in Bitcoin. At the highest tier, 23 individuals qualify as crypto billionaires, nine of whom hold their wealth primarily in Bitcoin. The 290 centimillionaires represent a modelled estimate derived from blockchain data, with 151 of them holding their wealth in Bitcoin alone. These figures arrive as the broader crypto market has contracted to a total capitalization of approximately $2.6 trillion. Bitcoin, which accounts for about $1.6 trillion of that total, was trading at $78,008 on the snapshot date, roughly 38% below its peak in October 2025. Henley noted this decline is milder than previous major Bitcoin downturns, which saw corrections exceeding 75% after peaks in 2011, 2013, 2017, and 2021.
