Reijnders cites role and money in Al Qadsiah move

Tijjani Reijnders said dissatisfaction with his role at Manchester City and a major financial offer influenced his decision to leave the club for Saudi Arabia’s Al Qadsiah after one season. The Netherlands midfielder said he began considering a move when preseason suggested he would again play in a more advanced position, which was not his preference. He also acknowledged that the chance to provide long-term financial security for his family was a significant attraction. Reijnders said he wanted a role that allowed him to move between attack and defence. During preseason at City, he said, he saw indications he would again be used further forward and began questioning whether he wanted another season in that position. He said he looked elsewhere after deciding he did not want to continue in the same role, and that City allowed him to explore a move. The 28-year-old joined Al Qadsiah after spending one season at Manchester City. Reports put the transfer fee at about £51 million, £52 million or €52 million, with the differing figures not reconciled.
