Reds place Suárez, Friedl on waivers

Published 27 August 2026

The Cincinnati Reds have placed veteran players Eugenio Suárez and TJ Friedl on outright waivers, a move that underscores the team's disappointing 2026 season and raises questions about the future of general manager Nick Krall. According to reports, the Reds made the move on August 26, giving the other 29 MLB teams a 48-hour window to claim either player and assume the remainder of their salaries. Suárez, a 35-year-old third baseman and designated hitter, signed a one-year, $15 million contract to return to Cincinnati this past offseason. The deal included a $16 million mutual option for 2027. He is owed approximately $3 million for the rest of the season.
