Red Bull hires Aston Martin engineer McCullough

Red Bull has announced the hiring of Tom McCullough as its new Head of Racing, a move set to take effect at the beginning of the 2027 Formula 1 season. McCullough, a highly experienced engineer, will succeed Gianpiero Lambiase, who is scheduled to depart the Milton Keynes-based team by 2028. Lambiase, who currently holds a dual role as Red Bull's Head of Racing and Max Verstappen's race engineer, is expected to join McLaren. His new position at McLaren will be that of chief racing officer, with his transition to the rival team anticipated by 2028. Red Bull's decision to bring in McCullough is a significant step in reshaping its senior engineering structure ahead of a new technical era for the sport. McCullough brings over a decade of Formula 1 experience, primarily gained with Aston Martin and its previous iterations, Force India and Racing Point. He held various senior engineering roles, including chief race engineer and performance director, before transitioning to a broader leadership position within Aston Martin Performance Technologies following a team restructure in early 2025. He is expected to leave Aston Martin at the conclusion of the 2026 season.
