RBI sets account aggregator interoperability plan

Published 7 October 2026

The Reserve Bank of India announced interoperability among account aggregators on October 7, 2026, saying customers will be able to choose an aggregator to access and share financial information across participating providers, subject to their consent. The central bank also said it would facilitate the inclusion of bank-deposit information in consolidated account statements maintained through SEBI-regulated depositories. RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra announced the measures alongside the central bank’s monetary policy decision. Under the plan, a customer using one account aggregator could share information across participating financial institutions even if those institutions use other aggregators. The framework is intended to give individuals more choice in how they access and share their financial data. The RBI said data sharing would remain consent-based. Interoperability does not itself authorize an aggregator or financial institution to access a customer’s information. The announcement did not specify the operational rules or list participating institutions, so the practical reach of the framework will depend on implementation and participation.
