Raskin calls Piker rhetoric an irrelevant distraction

Published 7 September 2026

Representative Jamie Raskin dismissed scrutiny of far-left streamer Hasan Piker's rhetoric as an "irrelevant distraction" on September 7, 2026, during an appearance on NBC's Meet the Press. Host Kristen Welker pressed the Maryland Democrat on Piker's controversial statements, including remarks where he said he would "vote Hamas over Israel every single time," and questioned whether the Democratic Party's tent was sufficiently large to encompass the online personality. Raskin stated he did not know if Piker considered himself a Democrat and noted that Piker had previously criticized him. "I think all of that is an irrelevant distraction," Raskin said. He added that while "nobody supports Hamas, a terrorist organization which brutally attacked Israel on October the 7th," people also do not support the policies of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Raskin pivoted to broader concerns, emphasizing the need to "stand strong for democracy, national security, human rights all over the world, but beginning right here in America, where our national security, our democracy, and our human rights have been undermined by Donald Trump and his MAGA followers.
