Queen Margrethe hospitalized third time this year

Queen Margrethe of Denmark has been hospitalized for the third time this year after the royal palace announced she was feeling unwell over the weekend. The 86-year-old monarch was diagnosed with a new blood clot in her hip region and mild dehydration, both of which are being treated. Officials stated that Queen Margrethe is in good spirits and, given the circumstances, is doing well. She is expected to remain in hospital for at least a week for observation and treatment. This latest health issue means Queen Margrethe will be unable to attend the state funeral of King Harald V of Norway, scheduled for Wednesday, September 9, 2026, in Oslo. Instead, King Frederik and Queen Mary will represent Denmark at the ceremony. King Frederik issued a statement expressing his condolences, noting that King Harald meant a great deal to his mother and himself, remembering his uncle's warm humor and calm presence. Queen Margrethe's hospitalization marks her third of 2026. She was previously admitted in May for heart health concerns and again shortly thereafter for a blood clot in her hip.
