Qualcomm unveils two 2nm Snapdragon flagship chips

Qualcomm announced two flagship smartphone processors at its annual Snapdragon Summit on September 22, 2026, splitting its 2026 mobile lineup into the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and a new top-tier Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, with agentic AI capabilities as the central focus of both chips. Both chips are the company's first processors built on a 2nm process and share a custom Oryon CPU with two prime cores running at up to 5GHz, described by Qualcomm as a first for mobile, alongside six performance cores reaching 4GHz and 16MB of Flex Cache. Qualcomm claims a 35 percent GPU performance uplift and 20 percent better NPU performance per watt over the previous generation. The Extreme variant adds 50 percent larger shared memory in its Hexagon NPU, which Qualcomm says allows it to run 30-billion-parameter mixture-of-experts models locally. A new Sensing Hub with dual micro NPUs can run models of up to 200 million parameters on-device, enabling features such as a local personal scribe, speaker differentiation, and task automation based on usage patterns.
