Qualcomm Releases Linux Preview for Snapdragon X2 Laptops

Qualcomm has released an early Linux developer preview for laptops powered by its Snapdragon X2 processors, beginning a broader effort to upstream support for the chips and prepare for Linux-enabled devices from computer makers. The preview uses Debian 13 with a custom kernel and is intended for developers who have access to X2 hardware, not as a ready-to-install system for general users. The company says it is working to integrate support into the mainline Linux kernel. Foundational Debian support is targeted for the end of 2026, while Ubuntu certification is planned for early 2027. Those are future milestones, not completed releases. A separate report put the expected completion of the current enablement work in November 2026, a step that does not by itself establish that consumer-ready laptops will be available then. The work covers core laptop components and is expanding to graphics, AI acceleration, power and thermal management, peripherals and reliability. Qualcomm’s development effort includes support for the Adreno GPU and Hexagon neural processing unit, with Linux graphics and compute drivers and software interfaces still being developed.
