Qinwen Zheng Withdraws From Wuhan Open With Shoulder Injury

Published 12 October 2026

Qinwen Zheng has withdrawn from the Wuhan Open with a right shoulder injury, according to a statement relayed by WTA Communications hours after she won the China Open title in Beijing. Zheng also said she was feeling fatigued after a demanding run of competition over the previous month and a half. In the statement, Zheng apologized to fans and said she was sorry to miss the tournament. Wuhan has particular significance for the Chinese player: she said it was where her tennis dream began and where she made her breakthrough at the WTA 1000 level. She had looked forward to playing before her hometown fans. Zheng’s withdrawal followed her victory over Mirra Andreeva in the China Open final. The report said Zheng won the title hours before the withdrawal announcement, becoming the first Chinese player to win the Beijing tournament. The supplied account did not provide a medical assessment of the shoulder injury or an expected recovery period. Zheng attributed her fatigue to competing at the US Open, the Billie Jean King Cup and the China Open during the preceding month and a half.
