Putney Pusher suspect dies, case remains unsolved

Nicholas Brandram, the prime suspect in the notorious 2017 "Putney Pusher" case, has died by suicide, his family said, blaming the pressure from a Metropolitan Police investigation that left the nine-year-old assault unsolved. Brandram, 44, was found dead at his home in Chiswick, west London, on September 15, 2026, with police treating his death as unexpected but not suspicious. His relatives stated that he took his own life after months of immense pressure caused by the Metropolitan Police investigation into whether he was the person who pushed a woman into the path of a bus on Putney Bridge in May 2017. The family maintained his innocence, alleging there was no forensic evidence linking him to the incident and that police ignored evidence proving he was not on the bridge at the time. The Metropolitan Police arrested Brandram on June 15, 2026, on suspicion of attempted grievous bodily harm related to the 2017 attack, and he was released under investigation. He was also arrested on suspicion of possessing class A and class B drugs. Following his death, the force referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) over prior contact with Brandram.
