Prajwal Revanna Sent to Custody Over Prison Phone Use

A Bengaluru court on Tuesday ordered former Member of Parliament Prajwal Revanna to be held in police custody for two days as part of an investigation into the alleged use of a mobile phone inside Parappana Agrahara Central Prison. Revanna, who is currently serving a life sentence following his conviction in an assault case in August 2025, was produced before the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate court along with co-accused Prathap Rai. The case stems from a raid conducted by the Central Crime Branch (CCB) on August 11, during which a Redmi 5G smartphone, a notebook, a charger, and a pen drive were reportedly recovered from a high-security barrack. Revanna allegedly claimed ownership of the notebook. According to police, the smartphone had applications such as Facebook, WhatsApp, Netflix, and Prime Video installed and was password-protected. The device was subsequently sent for forensic examination. Prosecutors stated that the phone was allegedly used to communicate with Revanna's family members and lawyers, and that the SIM card was procured from Andhra Pradesh.
