PPP Denies Reports of Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari's Marriage to European Royal

Reports that Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari was preparing to marry into a European royal family have been dismissed as false by a senior party leader. Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, who also serves as a spokesperson for Bhutto-Zardari, stated late on August 29 that the claims regarding an engagement and wedding were "incorrect and unfounded." The denial came after days of viral speculation on social media and in some Pakistani media outlets. The rumors gained momentum following an August 27 announcement from the Presidency that President Asif Ali Zardari had "proceeded abroad on a private visit." While the official statement did not disclose the destination or purpose, subsequent reports claimed the president had traveled to Liechtenstein or Austria to discuss arrangements for his son's wedding. Some reports specifically named 26-year-old Gloria von Habsburg, a former Austrian archduchess and member of the House of Habsburg-Lorraine, as the prospective bride. She is the great-great-granddaughter of Karl I, the last reigning Emperor of Austria.
