Porzingis to Miss Warriors Camp With Health Issue

Golden State Warriors center Kristaps Porzingis will miss the start of training camp because of an unspecified health issue, general manager Mike Dunleavy said Monday. Porzingis will not travel with the team to Hawaii, and the Warriors have not provided a return date or ruled out his availability for the season opener on Oct. 21. Dunleavy said Porzingis was unavailable for the week, but he was not declaring the center out for the start of the season. The team has not said what is causing the health issue or whether it is connected to Porzingis’s previously reported POTS condition, a nervous system disorder. Dunleavy said he could not determine whether POTS was related to the current issue. The update came after Porzingis had been medically cleared and working out at the team’s facility the previous week, according to Dunleavy. The general manager said he learned of the new issue on Sunday. Coach Steve Kerr also said he was surprised by the news and that the team had limited information. Porzingis joined Golden State from Atlanta in February and played 15 games for the Warriors, averaging 16.1 points and 5.3 rebounds.
