Inquests held on Monday, September 7, 2026, in Doncaster heard how police originally misidentified the front-seat passenger, Trevor Wynn, then 17, as the deceased male. Mr. Wynn's family believed he had died until he emerged from sedation three weeks later, on January 4, 2026. During this period, Mr. Johnson's family kept vigil at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield, sitting with the seriously injured Mr. Wynn, unaware their own son had been killed instantly in the collision. A statement from Joshua Johnson's father, Lee Johnson, read at the inquest, detailed the profound shock and distress.
