Police hunt Cat in the Hat figure after teen chased

Police in West Kelowna, British Columbia, are searching for an unidentified person dressed in a Cat in the Hat costume after a teenage girl reported being chased through her neighborhood last month. According to the West Kelowna RCMP, the girl was walking in the 2000 block of Shamrock Drive, near the Old Okanagan Highway, at around 9 p.m. on August 24 when she was pursued by someone wearing the full costume of the Dr. Seuss character. She was uninjured and managed to reach her home safely, police said. The RCMP released an image showing the costumed figure standing on a street at night in the distinctive red and white striped hat and black and white outfit. Investigators are working to identify the individual and determine the circumstances of the encounter. Cpl. Devon Gerrits of the West Kelowna RCMP said the behaviour was troubling regardless of intent. Regardless of whether the individual intended the behaviour as a joke, following a young person and causing them to fear for their safety is extremely concerning, Gerrits said.
