Poland warns Russia plans hybrid attacks on NATO allies

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk warned on Thursday that intelligence assessments indicate Russia is planning hybrid drone and missile attacks against countries supporting Ukraine, including Poland, in an effort to weaken NATO unity. Speaking to parliament, Tusk stated that the potential strikes would likely be portrayed as accidental, aimed at undermining the alliance's collective defense commitment under Article 5. "There is a real risk that drones may fall on the territory of one or several NATO countries on the eastern flank," Tusk told deputies, citing unnamed intelligence agencies. He emphasized that while the scenario is considered the most likely, it is not the only possible outcome, and clarified there is no threat of a direct Russian invasion. The warning comes amid heightened tensions near Poland's border. Earlier on Thursday, Poland scrambled military jets and issued air raid warnings in two eastern regions following a Russian attack in western Ukraine. Airports in Rzeszow and Lublin were temporarily closed, and local reports indicated sirens sounded and some schoolchildren sought shelter.
