Poland Launches Terrorism Probe After Drone Factory Fire

Polish authorities have launched a terrorism and foreign intelligence investigation after a fire at a factory producing drone components for the Polish and Ukrainian militaries, an incident officials suspect may be part of a wider sabotage campaign linked to Russia. The blaze broke out in the early hours of Monday, August 31, at the WB Electronics plant in the south-central city of Skarżysko-Kamienna. According to prosecutors from the Kraków branch of Poland's National Prosecutors Office, the fire was set deliberately using an incendiary device. Security cameras recorded a masked individual climbing the perimeter fence and entering the site shortly before the fire started. An intrusion alarm was triggered, prompting a security company monitoring the facility remotely to alert authorities. Five firefighting crews responded and brought the blaze under control in under two hours. No injuries were reported, but the fire destroyed storage rooms, with damage estimated at at least 15 million zloty (approximately $4 million).
