Pocognoli names first Scotland squad with major changes

Sebastien Pocognoli has named his first Scotland squad as head coach, making significant changes to the group that competed at the World Cup. The Belgian, who replaced Steve Clarke in August, has included seven uncapped players and recalled striker Oli McBurnie for the upcoming Nations League fixtures. McBurnie, who plays for Hull City in the English Premier League, returns to the international setup after a five-year absence. He last played for Scotland in March 2021 and fell out of favour under the previous manager. The 30-year-old has been in good form for his club this season. The squad features several new faces. Uncapped players include goalkeeper Jon McCracken, defenders Luis Binks, Stephen Welsh, and Luke Graham, midfielder Josh McPake, and striker Robbie Ure. Celtic teenager Colby Donovan also receives his first senior call-up. Pocognoli has omitted all the strikers from the World Cup squad. Lawrence Shankland is recovering from hamstring surgery, while Che Adams is unavailable due to an adductor injury. Lyndon Dykes, George Hirst, and Ross Stewart have also been left out. Midfielder Scott McTominay is absent after undergoing a minor heart procedure earlier this month.
