PGA Tour to adopt match play for Tour Championship starting 2028
The PGA Tour announced a major overhaul of its postseason on Tuesday, introducing match play to the season-ending Tour Championship beginning in 2028. The new format will replace the current FedEx Cup playoffs and feature a two-week, head-to-head competition designed to create a more dramatic conclusion to the season. Under the new structure, the top 90 players on the Championship Series points list will qualify for a 72-hole stroke-play event called the PGA Tour Championship Series Finale. The top 32 players on the final season-long points list will then advance to the Tour Championship.
