Peter Okoye Admits Receiving $800,000 SACEM Royalties

Peter Okoye, one half of the defunct music duo P-Square, testified at the Federal High Court in Lagos on Monday, September 21, 2026, that he received approximately $800,000 in royalties from the French music rights organisation SACEM for P-Square songs between 2016 and 2026, and gave none of it to his elder brother and former manager, Jude Okoye. Peter was cross-examined virtually before Justice Alexander Owoeye by Clement Onwuewunor, SAN, counsel to Jude, in the ongoing trial of Jude and his company, Northside Music Limited, on a seven-count charge brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. The charges allege fraud involving about N1.3 billion and 1 million. Both defendants have pleaded not guilty, and the allegations remain subject to determination by the court. The cross-examination focused largely on P-Square's royalty records, SACEM payments and the nature of Jude's role in the group's music and business affairs. Peter confirmed that Jude sent him six years of the group's backend royalty records covering 2016 to 2022, including records relating to Lex Records, and acknowledged that the EFCC was aware the report had been supplied.
