Pentagon Plans Livestream of Hasan Execution

Published 9 October 2026

The Pentagon says it plans to livestream the scheduled firing-squad execution of Nidal Hasan, a former Army psychiatrist convicted in the 2009 Fort Hood shooting that killed 13 people and injured 32. The Army has scheduled the execution for December 3, 2026, at Fort Hood, Texas; the sources do not establish whether it will take place as planned. Pentagon officials said further details about the livestream would follow. They have not specified a platform or viewing restrictions. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth had described the execution as public before officials clarified that it would be livestreamed. The planned execution would be the first military execution in more than six decades, according to the reports. Hasan could seek review in civilian court through a habeas petition, military-law experts said. Such a petition could delay the execution, but the sources do not report that Hasan has filed one. Eugene R. Fidell, a military-law specialist, said a legal challenge could extend beyond the current administration. The scheduled execution follows President Donald Trump’s approval of the sentence, according to Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell.
