Pentagon confirms US bombers left RAF Fairford

Published 4 October 2026

The Pentagon confirmed that all U.S. bombers deployed to RAF Fairford in England had returned to their home stations in the United States, as President Donald Trump said threats prompted the move. The specific warning and the people Trump said were behind it have not been publicly identified, and officials have not established whether it was connected to a suspected security incident near the base. Trump told reporters outside the White House on Monday, October 5, that the aircraft had not left by accident and that U.S. authorities knew who made the threat. He did not name them or provide details of the warning. When asked whether the people were linked to Iran, Trump said they would be, but did not disclose evidence supporting that assertion. Vice President JD Vance said the redeployment was made out of an abundance of caution to protect U.S. personnel. Secretary of State Marco Rubio cautioned against directly connecting the aircraft movement to the arrests near Fairford, citing routine movements of military assets for exercises, rotations and personnel changes.
