The Pentagon has expanded its internal generative AI platform, GenAI.mil, by adding secure versions of OpenAI's ChatGPT and xAI's Grok, providing two new commercial AI tools to its more than 3 million military and civilian personnel. ChatGPT Mil is designed for routine administrative tasks, logistics, planning, and policy work. Grok for Government, offered through Starshield AI, a SpaceX unit, includes multiple reasoning modes, customizable workspaces, and reusable "playbooks" to preserve institutional knowledge. The Pentagon said Grok can support tasks ranging from acquisition research to supply chain management. The expansion is part of the department's broader AI Acceleration Strategy, announced in January 2026, which prioritizes integrating enterprise AI across the military. Since its launch, GenAI.
