Pennsylvania Officer Charged With Manslaughter in Fatal Shooting of Student

A Pennsylvania police corporal has been charged with voluntary manslaughter in the fatal shooting of an unarmed 22-year-old college student who had mistakenly gone to the wrong house, prosecutors announced Tuesday. The charge against Upper Pottsgrove Police Cpl. Sean Farrell, 58, stems from the Aug. 23 death of Glenwood Earl Pysher IV, a student who was set to begin classes at Saint Elizabeth University this week. Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele said the shooting was not a legally justified use of deadly force under Pennsylvania law. According to the criminal complaint and body camera footage, Pysher had been drinking with friends to celebrate a 21st birthday before attempting to walk to another friend's home. He became confused and went to the wrong address on Snyder Road in Upper Pottsgrove Township, northwest of Philadelphia. Homeowners called 911 to report a possible break-in after Pysher knocked on their back door. Pysher realized his mistake and sent his location to friends so they could pick him up. He waited on the back patio. Corporal Farrell was the first officer to arrive.
